Reconstruction – improving energy efficiency

The implementation of the project „Nordic Plast Ltd polyethylene recycling line reconstruction – improving energy efficiency” was concluded in September 2011. The project was implemented in cooperation with the Latvian Environmental Investment Fund and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Regional Development, decreasing the energy use and limiting the amount of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere.

Within the framework of the project, the polyethylene primary processing line was reconstructed, changing its most energy-consumptive component – the drying unit, and introducing a new appliance, thus significantly decreasing the energy consumption. The total expenses of the project were 347.869,02 LVL (€ 494.973,03). The project was co-financed by the Climate Change Financial Instrument, covering 157.972,28 LVL (€ 224.774,30) of the project costs. Currently, the final reports are being prepared for submission to the Latvian Environmental Investment Fund.

As a result of the project, the approximate energy saving is anticipated to be 1 488 000 kWh, reducing the hazardous CO2 emissions by 194.95 t.
