SIA “Nordic Plast” Earns Gold Rating in the “Sustainability Index 2024”

The recycling company SIA “Nordic Plast” has received a Gold Rating in the 2024 Sustainability Index, organized by the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility. Four companies from the Eco Baltia group participated in the evaluation this year, and all were recognized with awards.

“Our operations have always been deeply rooted in sustainability principles, as we strive daily to promote the circular economy and reduce resource consumption. Participation in the Sustainability Index allows us not only to assess our achievements but also to identify the next steps for development. Receiving a high Gold Rating in our first year of participation confirms that our contributions to environmental and social initiatives have a positive impact. We will continue to strengthen our sustainability activities and expand their scope,” said Andris Trumars, Director of SIA “Nordic Plast.”

This was the first year SIA “Nordic Plast” participated in the Sustainability Index, earning the prestigious Gold Rating. Over the past year, the company launched a fleet renewal program, transitioning to electric vehicles. It also calculated its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, including Scope 3 emissions, and conducted an energy audit at its new factory premises. Additionally, the company replaced its employees’ workwear with uniforms made from recycled polyester. Significant improvements were also made to employee well-being, with all employees now receiving free meals and unlimited hot beverages.

One of the most notable achievements of the past year was the opening of an accredited laboratory. To encourage the use of more environmentally friendly materials in product manufacturing, SIA “Nordic Plast,” in collaboration with “Latvijas Zaļais punkts” and through the implementation of an EU LIFE project, established a specialized polymer testing laboratory in Latvia. This facility will serve as a tool for assessing the recyclability of plastics, contributing to the EU’s goals of increasing the volume of recycled waste in Latvia.

This year, four Eco Baltia group companies participated in the Sustainability Index evaluation, and all received awards. SIA “Eco Baltia vide” and AS “Iterum” were awarded Platinum Ratings, while SIA Siguldas pilsētas “JUMIS” and SIA “Nordic Plast” received Gold Ratings. SIA “Eco Baltia vide” participated in the index for the third time, AS “Iterum” for the second year, and SIA “Nordic Plast” and SIA Siguldas pilsētas “JUMIS” took part for the first time.

The Sustainability Index is a strategic management tool based on internationally recognized methodology. It serves as an excellent control mechanism, helping companies in Latvia assess their sustainability and corporate responsibility performance. Participation in the Sustainability Index demonstrates courage and transparency, while also highlighting a company’s commitment to improving its impact on the environment and society, contributing to the development of the industry and promoting national sustainability.
